Sclerotherapy

During sclerotherapy, our Registered Nurses will inject a chemical into your varicose veins. The chemical irritates and scars your veins from the inside out so your abnormal veins can then no longer fill with blood. Blood that would normally return to the heart through these veins returns to the heart through other veins. Your body will eventually absorb the veins that received the injection.

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure to treat uncomplicated spider veins and uncomplicated recticular veins. The treatment involves the injection of a solution into the affected veins.

How Does It Work?

Sclerotherapy is injected directly into the vein. It works by damaging the endothelium, the cells lining the inside of blood vessels. This causes blood platelets to attach to the lining of the vessels; eventually, cellular debris and platelets cause the blood vessel to clot. Over time, the clotted vein will be replaced with tissue.

What Causes Veins?

Spider and recticular veins can be caused by many factors like age, gender, overweight and pregnancy

How Long Will My Treatment Take?

Treatments will vary based on how many veins we are treating; typically they will go anywhere from 15 minutes up to 1 hour.
